Want some Christmas cheer? Then don't download The Death App

Morbid: The Death App tracks fatal
road accidents and murders - and maps them

Of all the thousands of apps available to iPhone and Android users, there can be few as macabre as The Death App.

It monitors murders and fatal road accidents that have taken place in the area you live and then – using the GPS device in your phone - marks them on a localised Google-powered map.
The free app was written by MobileNationHQ and you’ll need to visit their website and scan in a QR code to get it.

Tod Pedler, CEO of MobileNationHQ, told thenextweb.com: ‘We’ve created something that appeals to the public’s sense of morbid curiosity.

Grave matter: The Death App is available on Android smartphones

‘However, the Death App also draws attention to accident blackspots – to help pedestrians and cyclists navigate the streets more safely.’
The maps – which you can customise to show only road deaths, murders, or both – don’t give you the whole picture as it mines data from police.uk and citizensreportuk.org only as far back to January 1, 2010.
Still, enough death is illustrated, especially in cities, to provide a sobering perspective of your neighbourhood.
The app was made in just eight days using MobileNationHQ’s own simple app builder.
